PakvsNZ 2nd T20I: Pakistani veteran all-rounder, Mohammad Hafeez has set a new record slamming 99 not out off 57 balls. The score is the highest by any batsmen aging 40 or above in the T20I format.
His milestone came up playing the 2nd T20I of a three-match series against New Zealand at Seddon Park. However, it is disappointing to mention his 99 runs went vacant. Pakistan got subjected to another defeat in the hands of the Kiwis.
His whirlwind knock concludes 5 sixes and 10 fours. Just missing from a single run that would have been Hafeez’s first T20I hundred, he would also have become the second Pakistani batsman to score a ton in the format. Notably, no Pakistani batsmen other than Ahmed Shehzad has smashed a hundred in T20I cricket.
It is to mention that Hafeez has broken the record of Heinrich Gericke’s of Malta who scored 91 against Bulgaria. The veteran all-rounder struggled as the Men in Green fell short of wickets. By the end, Mohammad Rizwan’s 22 became the second-highest score for Pakistan’s innings.
Hafeez has remained in tremendous form since 2020 in the T20I cricket as his runs have surpassed 370+ in 9 matches averaging around 90s. However, as a consequence of the inconsistent batting line of others, Pakistan now do not hold a grip on the series win.
